Math Journal 9/23/12

Journal: What have you learned this week about congruence and transformations? What properties (size, shape, orientation) of an image, if any, change when you perform each of the transformations studied this week? How does the orientation (location) change for each type of transformation? Where are some places in your world that you see transformations?

  1. This week, I learned how to transform congruent shapes. There are 4 ways to transform a shape. You can slide it from one place to another, rotate it, show a reflecting image, or flip it. When reflecting, it's a mirror image of the shape you are using and it's the exact same distance away from the reflection point. When flipped, it's still the same shape, but its facing the opposite direction. When rotated, the shape/figure is turned either clockwise or counterclockwise. When slid, the shape/figure is moved from its original spot to another spot. In my world, I see reflections on mirrors and some windows; My reflection the same distance from the mirror as I am. The location of an object changes when it slides.

  2. You've demonstrated understanding of the concept we learned in class this week. Be sure to proof read your work; Although there are 4 types of transformations we only studied 3 because those are the ones that result in congruent images. I also saw a couple typos. By the way what does congruent mean???
